Neat Colt custom Target 38 special. After consulting with many revolver aficionados, we believe that at some point this Colt was customized by the Pachmayr shop. The rear sight treatment and hammer spur are consistent with modifications made by the Pachmayr shop. After sharing the grips with several of the grip experts, the consensus is they were made by Walter Stark. Stark was an LAPD officer who taught Fuzzy Farrant and influenced Guy Hogue and John Hurst. If you search Walter Stark you will find a youtube video done on the LAPD grip makers Stark, Blackford, Hogue, Farrant and John Hurst.

 

The gun itself appears to be a Official police. Cylinder diameter is 1.5″. It has been reblued with all external markings buffed away. It has a “clip frame” which many of the LAPD range staff did on their competition guns.  We have not fired it.
